Major Ventura Housing Project Heads Towards Environmental Approval

A new housing project planned for Ventura County has entered the next phase of the development process. Known as Hitch Ranch, the massive housing project has begun its environmental approval process. Located in the City of Moorpark, the development published its Draft Environmental Impact Report last month. An El Segundo-based developer, Comstock Homes, is behind the development. If Hitch Ranch moves forward, it would include 750 housing units on 277 acres.

Students Run LA Prepare for LA Marathon

Nearly 2,000 students are set to partake in the March 20 LA Marathon. Ahead of the 26.2-mile run, volunteer middle and high school teachers who serve as marathon leaders helped collect uniforms for the participants. In addition to the uniforms, the volunteers also collected posters and motivational handwritten notes. The “Stadium to the Stars” route will begin at Dodger Stadium and end in Century City. In total, 200 volunteers came together in Tarzana to gather Nike uniforms, among other items. Students Run LA is a nonprofit marathon training and free mentoring program.

Famed Sherman Oaks Restaurant Casa Vega Receives Prestigious Honor

Celebrity favorite and local legendary eatery Casa Vega has won the James Beard Foundation’s America’s Classics Award. A longtime local treasure, the Mexican restaurant opened in 1956 is one of six national winners. Known as an A-list celebrity hangout with great food and equally great margaritas, the honor should come as no surprise. According to the foundation's website announcement, the award is given to restaurants that have a “timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of its community.” The Sherman Oaks has remained in the hearts of locals and tourists alike since Rafael Vega opened its doors in the summer of 1956 at just 22 years old.

City of LA Seeks $197 Million for a New Bike Path in San Fernando Valley

A new bike path may soon be coming to San Fernando Valley. The Los Angeles City Council has requested $197 million to complete the design and construction of a bike path that would be along the LA river in SFV. The city council hopes the path can be completed before hosting the 2028 Olympics. The process of completing the 32-mile bikeway along the Los Angeles River has been an ongoing project for the last 25 years. The resolution for funding was passed in a 10-0 vote, with the county also aiming to complete a 61-mile path along the river. According to the plans, the path would extend from Canoga Park headwaters through Woodland Hills, Winnetka, Reseda, and Encino to the Sepulveda Basin. From there, the path would continue to Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, and Studio City.
